The EEA-grants is a financial mechanism established to contribute to the reduction of social and economic disparities in Europe by supporting the 10 new EU member states (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Hungary Malta and Cyprus) as well as Greece, Portugal and Spain.
Norway will contribute EUR 1,134 billion in the period 2004-2009. The funds will support development and investment projects with the purpose to contribute to the reduction of social and economic disparities in Europe.
The beneficiary states are responsible for the development and implementation of the projects. All beneficiary states have established a national focal point to assist public and private project owners in the application procedure.
High priority to the cultural heritage sector
Protection of the European Cultural Heritage is given high priority in all 13 countries, and is specified as a focus area
in most of the agreements between the EFTA states/Norway and the countries above.
Strengthening bilateral relations
An important objective in the agreements is that the EEA Grants should strengthen EFTA states/ Norway's relations with the
beneficiary states and increase co-operation on common challenges related to cultural heritage. This co-operation should build
on the priorities of the countries covered by the EEA-grants.
The Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage holds an advisory role for applicants within the cultural heritage sector. This homepage is developed to give access to useful links for applicants and cultural heritage management in the beneficiary states and provide updated information about the latest open calls, practical advice and announcement of seminars.
To the right you find useful links and to the left news articles about cultural heritage projects and seminars.
The Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage is also assisting applicants in trying to find Norwegian partners for their projects.
