Experiences and results 2004-2009

Norway contributed over NOK 10 billion through the EEA and Norway Grants to Central and Southern Europe in the 2004-2009 period. The cultural heritage sector received over 20% of this funding. A total of 225 cultural heritage projects in Europe were funded through this scheme.

Norwegian partnerships 2004-2009

A number of countries wanted to establish project cooperation with Norwegian partners during the previous EEA and Norway Grants period. The Directorate for Cultural Heritage is working continuously to encourage European network building and cooperation under the EEA and Norway Grants financial mechanisms, and assists Norwegian entities that wish to become partners in one of these projects.

The Directorate for Cultural Heritage as a partner in EEA projects

The Directorate is a partner in seven projects under the EEA and Norway Grants financial mechanisms. Four of these are individual projects, and three come under the Cultural Exchange Fund with Poland. The Czech Republic and Bulgaria are partnering countries in addition to Poland.

Connecting Communities 2009

In 2009 the Directorate for Cultural Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs supported three local projects in Norway to highlight the EEA and Norway Grants and the results that have been achieved. The Norwegian partners in the three projects were in charge of the events.

Culture and Continuity – a photographic record

In 2008 the Directorate for Cultural Heritage was commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to produce a book illustrating the diversity of cultural heritage projects supported by the EEA and Norway Grants in the 2004-09 period. The book, entitled “Culture and Continuity”, was completed in June 2009.
