The National Heritage Conservation Commission of Zambia has received Norwegian support over the last decade. Today regional offices are fully operational with qualified staff and basic equipment to safeguard the diverse cultural heritage in Zambia. The Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvaren) is cooperating with NHCC in order to strengthen their institutional capacity. The Museum of Archaeology in Stavanger as well as NIKU are involved in specific tasks: documentation and conservation of rock art as well as the establishment of a laboratory and a documentation center.

The headquarter of NHCC is in Livingstone, close to Victoria Falls, one of the World Heritage Sites on the African continent, and a major tourist attraction. The Railway Museum has an interesting exhibition of the history of the railway in Southern Africa, as well as a fascinating collection of old locomotives. Bush Trucks has leased Loco Engine No. 156 which will soon be poending the rails, adding to the attractions of Livingstone.
