In his relentless struggle against slavery and injustice to Africans Dr. Livingstone has had many places named after him. Livingstonia Mission is situated on the Khondowe plateau overlooking Lake Malawi. The mission settlement has played an important part in both elementary and higher education in Malawi. The school as well as the hospital are still in use. The Stone House, which was the home of the founder of the missionary station, Mr. Robert Laws, is now a resthouse and museum. Parts of the station are protected and the Norwegian Embassy in Malawi supports the restoration of buildings. The Directorate for Cultural Heritage is technical adviser.
