During the past 10-12 years, a large number of place analyses have been carried out in Norway. These analyses have been used as a basis for regional planning, a component in local society development and as a basis for independent discussions.
A brief from the Department of the Environment: “Place analysis - content and implementation” with examples, has helped motivate use of these analysis methods.
Some qualitative studies carried out in the 1990’s show a predominantly positive view of the use of place analysis in local planning.
In 2000 a study was done of five analyses, focussing on the relationship between the making of the analysis and its use.
