Value generating programme

Nationally and internationally, more and more attention has been focused on how cultural heritage and culture can contribute to social, cultural and economic devlopment. This interaction represents a great potential for employment and consolidated settlement in many towns and villages.

In 2006, Directorate for Cultural Heritage in Norway and the Ministry for the Environment, which is the Norwegian ministry responsible for cultrual heritage, initiated the programme Creating New Assets in the Cultural Heritage Sphere. The background for this programme is the political desire for the cultural heritage and the built environment to be used to a greater extent as resources in the development of thriving local communities, and as the basis for new economic activities.
